Most Wanted
We really want to hear from you if you feel there's an out of print whisky book out there that should be back in circulation. Ian and I think we know about most of them, but a recent trawl of the catalogue in the British Library by Ian revealed some real nuggets and potential surprises. So this is your chance to tell us what we're all missing.
Of course all these wonderful opportunities are subject to copyright permissions etc if the tome ain't in the public domain yet, but we know that our highly intelligent browsers know all about that malarkey anyway!
Here's some starters. Would you like to see any of the following?
- The Manufacture of Whisky and Plain Spirit. (1913) A classic reference book by A J Nettleton, a late Victorian figure at least as important in his day as Alfred Barnard but today almost completely forgotten. Time to bring him back? Problem is, this complete edition of his life's work and accumulated knowledge is over 600 pages long and very technical so a hefty reprint. Getting a lot of interest though!
- State of Facts, relative to the Scotch Distillery. George Skene Smith published his fascinating evidence to the 1798 House of Commons Commission on Whisky as a little pamphlet. Today only 6 copies are known in the world - but we've got one. Would you like to share it?
- A couple of people have suggested William Birnie's The Distillation of Highland Malt Whisky which was privately printed in 1937. It's a definite candidate. Anyone know where we can find a copy?
That's enough from us. Send your comments or suggestions to us using the form below, and we'll get back to you. We promise not to divulge your details to any third-parties (read our Privacy Statement for the full low-down).
Thanks,
NEIL
