Reviews

Check out what the media have to say about us...

This page contains media news and reviews of Classic Expressions and our latest titles.

  • WE'RE ON THE TELLY (well, almost): Singlemalt TV have just interviewed Ian in his Pitlochry hideaway, talking about Classic Expressions. Look out for this interview at www.singlemalt.tv   STOP PRESS: It's up on their website now and it's grrreat.
  • You might never have heard of The Keepers of The Quiach - an exclusive "club" for the great and the good of the Scotch Whisky world (and Buxton, for some reason. Evidently standards are slipping.). Anyway, they have a lovely magazine The Keeper, which has just recommended our "rare classic books at affordable prices". Yes, we do exactly what it says on the tin!
  • John Thorne, owner of the Whisky Words website, posted this nice comment: "A new venture set up by Ian Buxton [author] and Neil Wilson [author/publisher] to issue limited edition reprints of rare and out of print whisky books. Worth a look if you want to expand your library with some interesting books at a reasonable price." So, once you've ordered here, be sure to visit  Whisky Words - the site for bacchanalian bibliophiles (wish we'd thought of that line!). Note the bit about "reasonable price". We like that.
  • Whisky Magazine kindly ran an explanatory article by Ian on what we do in issue # 60 (page 20, if you can be bothered).
  • Listen to some advance info on www.whiskycast.com (you want episode 54) and - if you can bear the sound of Ian sounding off - a long interview on the launch (episode 59). Thanks, Mark.
  • A recent edition of Scotch Whisky Review, no 26, has given us a generous plug (p 4, if you're interested). Thanks to Dave Broom and Marcin Miller for this. SWR is by far and away the most entertaining and irreverent publication on the whisky trade and is essential reading for all whisky enthusiasts. But then, as it's the mouthpiece of the opinionated Lord Grist (Richard Joynson of Loch Fyne Whiskies in Inveraray) this is hardly a surprise. It is only available by subscription so get yours at subs@scotchwhiskyreview.com (it's only £10 for a one-year sub!). A snip, but only after you've placed an order here please.
  • The excellent Kevin at thescotchblog has just published a lengthy review. We don't think we're giving away any secrets when we say you can really trust what he says. Because, actually, he's already ordered himself. Neat, eh? Check it out at www.thescotchblog.com/2006/09/more_classic_bo.html#more

...and Kevin kindly recommended us in his latest email to thescotchblog's members as an ideal Christmas gift. We'd like to say we agree.
  • Thanks to Danish Founding Subcriber Al Jones (suspiciously un-Danish name there, Al) who posted the following rave review about us. At least, we assume it's a rave review - actually it's in Danish so we don't have the faintest idea. Hopefully the Vikings aren't all laughing at us at www.whiskynyt.dk/index.php?name=News&file=article&sid=1119
  • Our good friends at whisky-pages.com have something nice to say. www.whisky-pages.com/stories/classic.htm
  • ...and the mysterious Dr Scotch of San Antonio, Texas (a state in the U.S.A., apparently) has linked to us off his blog at www.drscotch.com   And, what is more, we just got an order from Waco, Texas.  Can this be a coincidence?
