NEWS: 31st May 2007

As a publisher I always get nervous when the printers say 'no problem'. Yup, it's happened with one of the first two books. They managed to get the slipcase covered in a cloth that is a teensy weensy bit less maroon than the case of the book. Rather than hold things up further we decided not to have them manufacture another 300 slipcases (3 weeks more time) and so we commence shipping on Monday 4th June. Other than that the books look good and will sit very attractively on your whisky bookshelf as you browse their contents on the free CD's you are getting with the books.

Islay Festival 2007

Anyone see me on Islay? No? Not surprising really as I missed the ferry on Thursday 24th May having ridden my Kawasaki Z1000 through torrential rain from Glasgow, delayed by roadworks, poor visibility and being soaked to the skin. Oh ... the panniers shipped water as well so I threw in the towel and returned to Glasgow to a hot bath. Next time, I'll be on a proper touring bike with watertight panniers. I've been riding for 36 years ... what was I thinking of?!

I was going to distribute flyers on Classic Expressions around the island to friends, distillers and all-round good eggs but I am sending them out 'in plain covers' so anyone on Islay this summer can pick one up. Everybody who has ordered one (or both) of the books will get a flyer with their first deliveries.

Regret not going over? You bet ... I found out that Jim MacEwan at Bruichladdich had put me on the 'top table' at the party in Port Charlotte on Saturday night. Trouble is I was supposed to be a guest of Diageo's malt supremo Nick Morgan in the company of the Malt Maniacs the same night. Still, it's one way to resolve a double-booking!

More news updates when we get the books to you.

Cheers,

NEIL (Ian is in St Petersburg ... lucky sod).
